About Dr. Keith Poulsen
Dr. Keith Poulsen is a veterinarian and clinician scientist who specializes in zoonotic and foodborne infectious diseases. His clinical training focused on dairy production medicine in veterinary school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and during his internship in food animal medicine and surgery at North Carolina State University. Dr. Poulsen is a Diplomat in the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine with specialty boards in large animal internal medicine. His PhD work focused on zoonotic foodborne infectious disease pathophysiology, specifically at the maternal-interface during pregnancy and shedding of Listeria monocytogenes post-partum in milk secretions.
Dr. Poulsen holds a joint appointment in Large Animal Internal Medicine at the School of Veterinary Medicine and is the Director of the Wisconsin Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is also an affiliate member of the Food Research Institute on that campus and active in the Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association, American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, and the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians. His professional interests focus on organizational leadership and management, infectious diseases of cattle, zoonotic infectious diseases, and global health. Current projects in progress focus on bovine salmonellosis and tuberculosis testing of dairy farm workers.
